A Recreation and Aquatics Center in Clarksburg
In 2010, Clarksburg was designated as the highest priority in the county for a Recreation and Aquatics Center. Yet 10 years later, still nothing. Now is the moment to act if we want to get the ball rolling.

Top Priority Since 2010
For more than a decade, Clarksburg has been identified by Montgomery County as the highest priority location for a Recreation and Aquatics Center. That designation was made in the County’s Recreation Facility Development Plan for 2010–2030.
Sixteen years later, Clarksburg still has nothing.
Meanwhile, recreation centers have been built in other parts of the County in places that were listed as lower priorities at the time. Our community continues to grow, families continue to move here, and yet children, teens, adults, and seniors still lack access to a basic community resource that much of the County takes for granted.
The recently released Gateway Sector Master Plan acknowledges the need for a recreation facility in Clarksburg. But acknowledgment alone is not enough. Without funding to begin Site Selection and Facility Planning, this long-standing priority risks being delayed yet again.
Right now, we have a narrow window to change that.
The County Council met on Tuesday, February 10th to hear public testimony for the FY27 Capital Budget and the FY27–32 Capital Improvements Program (CIP). This is the moment when projects either get started... or get pushed off for years.
What We’re Asking For
We are asking the County Council to include funding in the FY27 CIP to begin Site Selection and Facility Planning for a Clarksburg Recreation and Aquatics Center. This does not mean immediate construction. It means taking the first, necessary step toward finally delivering what the County itself has said Clarksburg needs most.
How You Can Help (It Takes 2 Minutes)
One letter from the CNA is a good start. But who they really need to hear from is YOU! Residents of Clarksburg! Please email all of the County Council Members and ask to include site selection and facility planning for a Clarksburg Recreation and Aquatics Center in the FY27 CIP.
Please send your email by Sunday, February 16. The sooner Councilmembers hear from residents, the more impact these messages will have as budget decisions are made.
We’ve created a simple email form below that allows you to add your name and share your personal reasons for wanting a recreation and aquatics center in Clarksburg—whether that’s for your kids, your health, your aging parents, swim safety, or community connection.

Or if you would like to draft an email on your own, we've included the emails of your County Council Members here:
Clarksburg has shown up, invested in itself, and waited patiently. Now we need the County to do the same. Your voice matters—and right now, timing matters just as much.
Let’s make sure Clarksburg is no longer the community that’s always told, “maybe later.”
